Tehsildars across Punjab announce statewide strike over arrest of tehsildar by Vigilance
As per the information, the Tehsildar was arrested based on the complaint registered by Amrik Singh, a resident of Bihla village in Barnala district.
PTC News Desk: Tehsildars across Punjab have announced a statewide strike over the arrest of tehsildar Sukhcharan Singh while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. Tehsildars have decided to gather in Barnala and protest against Punjab government and Vigilance Bureau.
According to the reports, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday apprehended Tapa tehsildar Sukhcharan Singh red handed while he was accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000. The Bureau has claimed that tehsildar was the state president of the revenue officers’ association.
As per the information, the Tehsildar was arrested based on the complaint registered by Amrik Singh, a resident of Bihla village in Barnala district.
"The complainant had approached the vigilance bureau and informed that his friend Harbhajan Singh of Maur Nabha village in Barnala district had to get registration of 2.4 kanal of agricultural land but the tehsildar was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000," said Vigilance Bureau spokesperson.
Following the complaint, the bureau of Barnala unit was swift to take action and nabbed tehsildar during taking bribe from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
The bribe money was also recovered from the accused and the bureau has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigations are underway.
