PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Police’s detention of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has intensified tensions, with farmers mobilising in protest. A high-level meeting at the Khanauri border between farmer representatives and officials, including DIG Manjit Singh Sandhu, SSP Nanak Singh, and intelligence officers, failed to yield any resolution. Farmers have categorically stated that negotiations will not proceed until Dallewal is released and joins the protest.

Farmer leaders, including Kaka Singh Kotda, have declared that the ongoing agitation will not cease until their demands are met. They have adopted a resolute stance, announcing a “death fast” strategy, where any loss of life among leaders during the protest will be succeeded by another taking their place. This ultimatum gives the government 10 days to respond, failing which farmers plan to march to Delhi on December 6.

On the other hand, the Punjab Police have justified its action, citing concerns over Dallewal’s age, health, and the potential for crowd-related challenges during his indefinite strike. DIG Mandeep Singh Sidhu said Dallewal was taken to Ludhiana’s DMC Hospital for medical evaluation. However, no updates on his condition have been made public, leading to accusations of human rights violations from farmer organisations.

Farmers are also adamant on a foot march to Delhi instead of using tractors. Protest leaders have urged large-scale mobilisation to counteract any future police action.
