Sangrur: Punjab Police lathicharge teachers protesting near CM’s house, several detained

Chandigarh, July 1: Punjab Police on Saturday lathicharged protesting teachers near the home of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Khurana village, Sangrur. According to reports, several protesters have also been detained.

Why are the teachers protesting?

The teachers have been demanding that their services be regularised, stating that the Aam Aadmi Party government had recently given them only a marginal increment while claiming in an announcement that it had regularised 14,239 teachers and other education department employees.
