In a statement here, senior leaders Bikram Singh Majithia and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the manner in which reporters of Ajit, PTC and ABC were barred from entering the Vidhan Sabha on the first day of the budget session had shocked all well meaning persons.
The leaders described the move as an attack on the fourth estate and said it was not only ill conceived and undesirable but was also politically motivated.
Bikram Majithia said it was shocking that a party which prided itself as a custodian of the mother tongue had denied entry to reporting staff of the Ajit group of publications into the Vidhan Sabha.
He said this petty action was taken solely because the Ajit newspaper was asking questions on behalf of the people from the government. “Instead of answering these, the AAP government has chosen to restrict the freedom of the press”. Majithia also appealed to Punjabis to stand in solidarity with the Ajit newspaper and its editor Barjinder Singh Hamdard.
