PTC Web Desk: In a recent development, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working committee has not reached a final decision on whether to accept the resignation of Sukhbir Singh Badal as the party chief. Addressing the media after the meeting of the working committee, SAD leader and party's working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder said while discussions had taken place, a consensus had not yet been formed.

Party officials said further deliberations would be conducted with district presidents and other key members before any final decision was announced.

On November 16, Sukhbir Singh Badal resigned as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). In a statement posted on X, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema confirmed that Sukhbir Singh Badal submitted his resignation to the party's working committee on Saturday to facilitate the election of a new president. Dr Cheema mentioned that Sukhbir singh Badal had expressed gratitude to party leaders and workers for their trust in his leadership and the support they extended throughout his tenure.

Sukhbir Singh Badal’s decision to step down followed his recent appeal to the Akal Takht Jathedar to announce his punishment regarding charges of religious misconduct. More than two months have passed since he was declared “tankhaiya” (guilty of religious misconduct).

In July, the SAD had disbanded its core committee following a meeting in Chandigarh. At the time, Dr Cheema mentioned that the core committee would be restructured soon.
