Sacrilege probe: Punjab AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap quits Assembly panel following 'differences' with govt
Former IG sent his resignation to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan via email, but is yet to be accepted
Mohali, January 25: In a major embarrassment for the Punjab Government, AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh on Wednesday tendered his resignation as chairman of the committee on government assurances of the Vidhan Sabha. He resigned from the sacrilege probe panel allegedly after differences with Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government over the investigation.
AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is a former IGP. Earlier too, he had quit from the police on the same issue. He headed the committee on government assurances in the Vidhan Sabha. As per information, the AAP MLA had called a meeting of the committee on January 20 on the sacrilege cases investigation. However, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan called another meeting at the same time.

Former IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh has sent his resignation letter to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan through e-mail. However, the resignation has not been accepted yet.
Notably, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly had appointed the AAP MLA as the Chairman of the government trust committee, but during the Assembly session, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh demanded a long discussion regarding the investigation of sacrilege cases. He had appealed for a full-day discussion, but this demand was not accepted by the Assembly.

In March 2021, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had resigned from the police after a decision of the High Court. Then he joined the AAP. After this, he was also made a member of the special committee formed to investigate the sacrilege cases.
