Punjab's special operation cell arrests Spain-based NRI, his accomplice for terror financing, target killings
Mohali, August 3: The State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, has arrested a Spain-based NRI Harjeet Singh, a native of Ghanshampur village, Gurdaspur, from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, in connection with alleged terror financing and involvement in planning to execute target killings in the state. His accomplice, Amrinder Singh, alias Bunty, has also been arrested.
Recently, the State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, had busted a target killing module in Punjab by arresting five module members handled by foreign entities linked to KLF (Khalistan Liberation Force). A case in this regard was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at SAS Nagar.
Ashwani Kapur, AIG, State Special Operation Cell, SAS, said they had a tip off that an Indian national, Harjeet Singh, had come to India around a month ago and is involved in activities of terror financing. They had also come to know that he was planning to execute a few target killings of Hindu leaders in Punjab and is about to leave for Spain from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
He said the Punjab Police immediately opened LOC of the subject and arrested him from the airport on August 1.
During interrogation, it came to light that Harjeet Singh had allegedly played a crucial role in facilitating terror activities by funding and assisting his associate Amrinder Singh, alias Bunty, of Khanna. Following this, the State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, raided his house and arrested Amrinder Singh.
From preliminary interrogation of Amrinder Singh, alias Bunty, it has been learnt that Harjit Singh and Amrinder Singh came in contact with each other through social media. On several occasions, Harjit Singh sent financial aide from Spain to his accomplice Amrinder Singh in India in order to arrange the needful to execute the target killing of prominent leaders of Hindu outfit in Ludhiana and nearby areas.
Harjit Singh was working allegedly at the behest of some foreign-based radicals linked to the KLF, a banned organistaion. He had been using two pseudo Facebook accounts for promoting radical content, including activities of Sikhs For Justice.
