Punjab: Strict action against stubble burning, Rs 1.5 lakh fine imposed; 30 red entries made

In an effort to curb stubble burning, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has taken strict actions against violators. So far, 199 incidents of stubble burning have been recorded across the state, prompting swift action by the authorities.

PTC News Desk: In an effort to curb stubble burning, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has taken strict actions against violators. So far, 199 incidents of stubble burning have been recorded across the state, prompting swift action by the authorities.

The field team personally visited 107 sites and took appropriate action, according to the study.

The government has enforced an environmental compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh in 52 cases. So far, 30 red entries have been made and five FIRs were registered against farmers in the state as of Tuesday evening. 

“The action includes five FIRs registered under section 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the environmental compensation worth Rs 1.50 lakh has been slapped in 52 cases and as many as 30 red entries in the revenue records of the farmers have been made for violating the directions of a complete ban of burning crop residue,” the report released by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) stated.
