Punjab: STF arrests SI, 2 others for running drug network in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, November 23: A Special Task Force (STF) of the Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested Sub-Inspector Harjinder Singh and two of his accomplices, Harjinder Kaur (35) and Rohit Kumar (20), for allegedly running drug network in the city. The accused were arrested after laying a trap. Heroin worth crores of rupees has been recovered from their possession. 

The accused would use police cover to smuggle drugs. Sources said being a policeman, Harjinder Singh could smuggle drugs easily and no one ever suspected his role in drug peddling. Sub Inspector Harjinder also consumes heroin. In 2018, he was posted in Phillaur. He has bene into drug smuggling for the past couple of years. When Harjinder was arrested by the STF, he was in police uniform. A total of 840 gm of heroin was recovered from his pocket.

STF AIG Snehdeep Sharma, while talking to mediapersons, said they had received a tip-off that SI Harjinder Singh had heroin in his pocket. A trap was laid and he was stopped for checking. Heroin was recovered from his pocket. When the accused was interrogated, he revealed the names of two of his companions.


Accused Harjinder Kaur is also a drug addict and has been into this business for the last 10 years while Rohit Kumar works in a factory. The accused will be produced in the local court and their remand will be obtained.
