Punjab: SGPC sets up support centre for foreigners visiting Golden Temple

Amritsar, February 16: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has established a support centre for the convenience of pilgrims arriving from other countries to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

The centre has been established near Ghanta Ghar and started functioning today (Thursday) after prayers in the presence of SGPC chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and other prominent personalities.

Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said a large number of pilgrims from foreign countries visited the Golden Temple on a daily basis. To facilitate them, a support centre had been established.

He said an information centre had already been established for the convenience of devotees, where valuable information about the Golden Temple was available. Since pilgrims from other countries at times faced language problem, a special support centre had been opened to provide information to sangat from abroad. 

Earlier, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had appointed five guides to help foreign and domestic tourists visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar. They would explain Sikh culture and history to them.

IT wing head, SGPC, Jaskaran Singh said five Information Officers were often busy with dignitaries and top government officials visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar from other states. Therefore, five guides had been appointed to assist tourists.
