PTC News Desk: Parts of Punjab are likely to witness heavy rain on Monday, with yellow alert issued for four districts.

A yellow alert has been issued in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Rupnagar, which border Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile all other Punjab regions are expected to experience cloudy skies and normal rainfall.

As the region has received moderate to heavy rain in recent days, the north Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh have transitioned from severely deficient rainfall (60% to 90%) to normal rainfall (-19% to 19%).

From June 1 to July 7, Punjab recorded a 9% rainfall deficit. The state received 74.5 mm of rainfall, compared to an average of 82 mm.

Haryana had 70.9 mm of rain, 10% less than the average of 78.5 mm.

Himachal Pradesh also had 123.2 mm of rain, which is 10% less than the average of 144.5 mm. However, in the last 24 hours on July 7, Punjab experienced 25% extra rainfall, receiving 5.8 mm compared to a normal of 4.6 mm.

Haryana had 139% more rain than average, receiving 9.6 mm against a normal of 4 mm, while Himachal had 92% less rain, receiving 0.7 mm against a normal of 8.4 mm.
