Punjab rains: 5-year-old child dies in house roof collapse in Amritsar district

Amritsar, August 1: In a tragic incident, heavy rains caused the roof of a house belonging to one Lovepreet Singh to collapse, leading to the death of his five-year-old child. The incident took place at Kheraabad village falling under the Attari Assembly constituency in Amritsar. Meanwhile, in Bathinda, another roof collapse occurred, but fortunately, there were no casualties.

Villagers said two young children and Lovepreet's brother were trapped under the debris. They managed to rescue a young man and two children from the rubble and took them to the hospital. While Lovepreet’s brother and one child were saved, 5-year-old Gurfateh Singh did not survive.



Notably, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana for August 1, with a yellow alert for August 2. Rain alerts continue for Punjab, and persistent rainfall has been reported across various parts of the state since midnight. Since morning, most districts in Punjab have been experiencing rain. 

Rainfall alerts have been issued for eight districts in Punjab today — Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Barnala, Sangrur and Mansa. A yellow alert is in place for the remaining parts of the state, and this alert will be restricted to districts adjacent to Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
