Punjab Municipal Elections Live Updates: Voting has officially begun for the Punjab civic body elections, with citizens heading to the polls to cast their votes for the five municipal corporations, 44 municipal councils, and various nagar panchayats. The elections will take place from 7 am to 4 pm on Saturday.

Key municipalities going to polls are Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara. A total of 37.32 lakh voters, including 19.55 lakh males and 17.76 lakh females, are eligible to participate in the elections.

Polling is being conducted for 381 wards in the municipal corporations and 598 wards in the municipal councils and nagar panchayats. The state election commissioner, Raj Kamal Chaudhuri, has assured that all necessary arrangements are in place, with heightened security at 344 hypersensitive and 665 sensitive polling stations. A total of 21,500 personnel, including police and Home Guard Jawans, are deployed across the state to ensure smooth voting.
