Punjab introduces green tax on vehicles over 15 years old

PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Cabinet has approved the imposition of a green tax on vehicles older than 15 years as part of the state's new vehicle scrap policy. This decision, made during a recent Cabinet meeting, aims to curb pollution and promote the use of environmentally friendly vehicles across the state.

Key points of the new green tax

Tax Slabs

Rs 4,000 for four-wheeled petrol and diesel vehicles with engines up to 1500 cc

Rs 6,000 for diesel vehicles with engines exceeding 1500 cc

Rs 500 for two-wheelers

Rs 300 for three-wheelers

Rs 500 for maxi cabs

The implementation of this tax is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to encourage the phasing out of older, more polluting vehicles.
