Punjab: Five-year-old Teghbir Singh from Ropar sets record as youngest Asian to climb Mount Kilimanjaro

PTC Web Desk: Teghbir Singh, a five-year-old boy from Ropar, Punjab, has set a new record by becoming the youngest Asian to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro stands at an elevation of over 19,340 feet (5,895 metre).

Teghbir Singh began his ascent on August 18, successfully reaching the summit, Uhuru Peak, on August 23. The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, took to social media platform X to congratulate Teghbir, praising his determination and resilience as an inspiration for all. "His achievement will motivate others to push their limits," Yadav wrote.



Teghbir’s remarkable feat matches the world record set by Ognjen Zivkovic of Serbia, who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro at the age of five on August 6, last year. According to world trekking portal data, Teghbir is now the youngest Asian to have accomplished this challenge.

Teghbir Singh credits his success to his coach, Bikramjit Singh Ghuman, a retired handball coach. His family revealed that the journey to this achievement involved extensive preparation, with training beginning a year prior. To prepare for the high altitudes, Teghbir underwent exercises aimed at enhancing heart and lung capacity. He also participated in various trekking activities before planning the final ascent.

After conquering the peak, Teghbir Singh proudly hoisted the Indian national flag at the summit. His father accompanied him on this challenging expedition.
