Punjab encounter news: Encounter breaks out between Tarn Taran police, gangsters from Landa gang

The gang had recently demanded Rs 1 crore as extortion money from a doctor

PTC Web Desk:  In a dramatic encounter, the Tarn Taran police clashed with members of the Lakhbir Landa gang, leading to gunfire on both sides. The shootout resulted in injuries to two gang members, who were then hospitalised by the police.

The arrested gangsters have been identified as Kuldeep Singh, alias Laddoo, Yadvinder Singh, alias Yada, and Prabhjeet Singh, alias Jajj. During the exchange of fire, Kuldeep and Yadvinder sustained bullet injuries to their legs. Prabhjeet Singh was apprehended without injury.

DSP, Goindwal Sahib, Atul Soni said the gang had recently demanded Rs 1 crore as extortion money from a doctor. Upon refusal, the gang lowered their demand to Rs 50 lakh and persistently harassed the doctor through phone calls. Acting on specific intelligence about the gang's activities, the CIA staff and police organised an operation to intercept the suspects.

During the operation, the gangsters fired at the police, triggering retaliatory firing. The injured suspects, Kuldeep and Yadvinder, were immediately admitted to a hospital, while Prabhjeet was taken into custody.

DSP Soni said further investigation was underway to identify those who shared the doctor's contact details with the gang and determine who initiated the extortion calls.
