Punjab college, university teachers to get benefits of UGC 7th Pay Commission

With decision implemented in October, teachers to get financial benefit of Rs 280 cr from exchequer

Mohali, December 28: Fulfilling the long-pending demand of college and university teachers, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has implemented the UGC 7th Pay Commission recommendations.  

Higher Education and Languages Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said in the very first year, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government had taken a major step towards implementing the UGC 7th Pay Commission recommendations for teachers of colleges and universities across the state.

With the decision implemented in the month of October, teachers would get a financial benefit of Rs 280 crore from the government exchequer. Along with this, the salaries of guest faculty and part-time teachers working in colleges had been increased. They were now also entitled to various types of holidays.

In order to give due respect to Punjabi language, November was celebrated as 'Punjabi Month' by the Language Department. A state-level function was organised in Amritsar, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced to make Punjabi language a must on signboards till February 21. A fine would be imposed for non-compliance of the order.

He said prizes were also given to authors selected for best books. Apart from this, events were dedicated to great literary figures. Waris Shah, Bhai Veer Singh, Balwant Gargi, Nanak Singh, Sant Ram Udasi and Ajmer Aulakh among other personalities were remembered through various events. A budget of Rs 30 crore was also earmarked for new district libraries, he added.

Story writer Sukhjit was selected for 'Bharatiya Sahitya Akademi Award' for his book 'Main Ayanghosh Nahin' and Bhupinder Kaur Preet for the translation of tribal poetry book 'Nagare Wang Vajde Shabad', which was a matter of pride for Punjab.

The Punjab Cabinet minister said Rs 5 crore were earmaked for sports, Rs 10 crore for digital classroom with e-content, Rs 5.39 crore for sanitary napkins and Rs 11.50 crore for solar system. For the NCC infrastructure improvement and provision of facilities in units and training centers, an amount of Rs 5 crore was released.
