Punjab byelections 2024:  The Election Commission has officially announced the schedule for bypolls in four Assembly constituencies in Punjab: Barnala, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Gidderbaha. Polling is set to take place on November 13, with the results to be declared on November 23.

Notably, four Assembly seats will witness bypolls as their former MLAs have recently been elected as Members of Parliament (MPs). Following their election to the Lok Sabha, they resigned from their Assembly seats. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who represented Barnala, is now an MP from Sangrur, while former Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has been elected from Ludhiana. Raj Kumar Chabbewal is now an MP from Hoshiarpur, and former Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa represents Gurdaspur in the Lok Sabha. The political atmosphere in these constituencies is expected to heat up in the coming days as parties gear up for the polls.

Political parties have started preparations for the upcoming bypolls. Election in-charges and co-incharges have been appointed. The Shiromani Akali Dal held its core committee meeting two days ago, while the Congress has also formulated its strategy for the bypolls. The BJP has completed its preparations as well. Meanwhile, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is focusing on development projects in the constituencies, with the Chief Minister having already toured all four regions.
