Punjab Budget Session gets nod; to begin from March 3
Punjab Guv had no discretion to delay summoning of Assembly: Supreme Court
New Delhi, February 28: The Punjab Budget session 2023 will begin from March 3, as planned. The decision was conveyed to the Supreme Court on behalf of Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit as the case came up for hearing on Tuesday.
The Punjab Government had moved the Supreme Court challenging Governor Banwarilal Purohit's refusal to summon Punjab Budget session 2023. The matter was heard by a Bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud.
The Supreme Court, while taking up the Punjab Government's petition, said Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit had no discretion to delay the summoning of the Punjab Budget session in contravention of the Council of Minister, headed by the Punjab CM.
On the other hand, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared for the Governor, told a Bench headed by Chief Juctice DY Chandrachud that "the Governor has already announced to convene the session".
