Punjab: BSF foils Pak drone smuggling attempt, seizes 3kg drugs near Tarn Taran border

Troops and Punjab Police conducted a joint search, finding a large heroin consignment in yellow-taped packets near the village

Chandigarh, July 31: The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a drone smuggling attempt near the International Border in the Tarn Taran sector on Sunday night. The vigilant troops heard the buzzing sound of a hexacopter drone entering India from Pakistan near Kalash village in Tarn Taran district.

Reacting swiftly, the BSF troops intercepted the drone by shooting it down. A joint search operation was conducted on Monday morning with Punjab Police in the area.


During the search, the security forces discovered a large consignment suspected to be around 3 kg of heroin concealed in a packet wrapped in yellow tape in fields near the village.

"Further, on July 31, 2023, a joint search operation with Punjab Police was carried out. During the search of the area, troops recovered a big size consignment of Heroin (Weight - appx 3 Kg) wrapped with yellow tape along with 01 Drone from the farming field near Khemkaran village, Tarn Taran district," added the release.

In addition to the narcotics, the hexacopter drone used for the smuggling operation was also recovered by the security forces. This successful interception marks another instance of BSF's continuous efforts to safeguard the Indian territory from cross-border smuggling activities.
