PTC Web Desk: In a significant move for property owners in Punjab, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has approved the proposal to eliminate the NOC requirement for property registration. This announcement was made by the Punjab Government, which stated that the decision would facilitate access to essential services for residents in unauthorised colonies. The law will also impose strict penalties on those engaged in the development of illegal colonies, including substantial fines and severe punishments for offenders.

The Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2024, was passed unanimously in the Punjab Assembly on September 3 and subsequently sent to the Punjab Governor for approval. It's pertinent to note that while the order will not regularise illegal colonies, it will allow for the regularisation of plots within these areas. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said this legislation wsa designed to benefit the general public.

To deter the establishment of illegal colonies in the future, the government has implemented stringent measures. Offenders could face hefty fines, along with potential imprisonment of a minimum of five years, extendable up to 10 years. Once the Governor gives his approval, the law will be enacted immediately.
