PTC Web Desk: Jasmeet Kaur, the wife of Naraien Singh Chaurra—accused of attempting to attack former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, revealed that her husband left home around 5.45 am, stating he was heading to a commemorative event at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Addressing the media, she said, “I had no knowledge of this incident. My husband has served jail terms in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh. What he has done is completely wrong. However, I do not know what circumstances led him to take such a step.”

The incident occurred on Wednesday when Sukhbir Singh Badal, wheelchair-bound and serving "punishment" guard duty at the temple, was targeted by Naraien Singh Chaurra. The attack was foiled as the accused was overpowered Chaura and handed over to the police.

Naraien Singh Chaurra, a controversial figure with deep ties to militant and Khalistani activities, has been associated with banned organisations like Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and the Khalistan Liberation Force. Born on April 4, 1956, in Chaurra village near Dera Baba Nanak (Gurdaspur), he is linked to several cases involving arms smuggling, explosives, and supporting terrorism.

He allegedly played a critical role in aiding the mastermind of the Burail jailbreak and maintained close ties with prominent terrorists, including Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjit Singh Bhiora, and Jagtar Singh Tara, who were involved in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.

In 1984, during the peak of militancy in Punjab, he reportedly fled to Pakistan, where he is believed to have contributed significantly to the insurgency by smuggling arms into India. While in Pakistan, he wrote guerrilla warfare manuals and seditious literature, including a controversial book titled Khalistan Viruddh Saazish.

Following the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Sub-Inspector Kailash Singh of Dera Baba Nanak police station visited Naraien Singh Chaurra's residence, where only his wife was present. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
