Mohali building collapse: 2 accused arrested, SDM-led panel to probe tragedy
After carrying out rescue operation for 24 hours , the NDRF concluded their search with assurance that all the people have been pulled out of the debris.
PTC News Desk: In a tragic case of building collapse in Mohali's Sohana, police have arrested two people in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Parminder Singh and Gagandeep Singh.
The shocking incident took place on Saturday evening when a multi storey building in merely six seconds came down crashing and altered into rubbles. Two people lost their lives in the tragic incident and injured were transported to the hospital.
After carrying out rescue operation for 24 hours , the NDRF concluded their search with assurance that all the people have been pulled out of the debris. As per the National Disaster Response Team (NDRF) report, only two people were trapped under the debris.
The police officials have managed to nab two accused so far. The duo was booked under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. One of them was elected as a panch in the recently held panchayat polls.
Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP), Deepak Pareek said, “We have identified the construction contractor who will also be nominated in the case. Our teams are raiding the possible hideouts of the accused and they will be nabbed soon. Moreover, we will also take stringent action against all the culprits responsible for the accident.”
A majestria probe has been ordered intro the incident to hold accountability.
“Mohali sub-divisional magistrate Damandeep Kaur has been entrusted with the probe and she has been asked to submit the report within three weeks following which we will take strict action against the government officials or the private persons responsible for the tragedy that claimed two innocent lives,” said Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Viraj S Tidke.
On the heels of the incident, it has also come to light that there are several other illegal structures have been established beyond the permissible limit which can meet the fate.
To mitigate the further damage, the officials have emphasised on conducting surveys to zero in on similar illegal and dangerous structures.
