Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh files petition in HC, seeks permission to attend Parliament sessions, Republic Day parade
Amritpal Singh in his petition has cited his attendance a symbol of democratic values and the basic principles enshrined in the Constitution.
PTC News Desk: Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has filed a petition in Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions to attend Parliament session. Singh has also sought directions to permit him to attend Republic Day ceremony “in the interest of justice and equity”.
Amritpal Singh in his petition has cited his attendance a symbol of democratic values and the basic principles enshrined in the Constitution. He said that his presence in these programs of national importance is a matter of public interest.
The petition has been filed in less than a fortnight after Amritpal launched his political party 'Shiromani Akali Dal Waris Punjab De'. The petition is yet to be listed. Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib Amritpal Singh has been incarcerated in Assam's Dibrugarh Jail under the provisions of the National Security Act.
“The participation of the petitioner in the Republic Day ceremony and parliamentary sessions is a matter of national importance and public interest. It symbolises the inclusiveness of democracy and the fundamental values enshrined in the Constitution,” he added.
Amritpal Singh has also added that he is obligated to attend parliamentary sessions and participate in legislative debates to effectively voice the concerns of his constituents and fulfil his constitutional responsibilities in his capacity as an MP.
