Jalandhar Cantt railway station renovation disrupts train routes until October 9 | Check Details
Swarna Shatabdi Express will now run only until Phagwara, while the Shan-e-Punjab Express will terminate at Ludhiana
PTC Web Desk: Renovation work is underway at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station, leading to significant changes in train routes, including some of Punjab’s major express services. The station is undergoing a major revamp, which involves the construction of a 200-metre roof, necessitating the installation of iron girders.
Due to this construction, the power supply to the overhead wires at the site has been cut off, forcing the suspension of train services on this route. As a result, two prominent trains, the New Delhi-Amritsar Swarna Shatabdi Express (12029-30) and the Shan-e-Punjab Express (12497-98), did not reach Jalandhar on Monday. This disruption is expected to last until October 9.
According to railway officials, the routes of these trains have been altered. The Swarna Shatabdi Express will now run only until Phagwara, while the Shan-e-Punjab Express will terminate at Ludhiana. Additionally, the Amritsar-Kanpur (22445-46) and Darbhanga-Jalandhar City (22551-52) trains have been rerouted to Ambala Cantt. Specific dates for these changes are Kanpur Central on October 7 and Darbhanga Express on October 5.
Several other trains, including the Amritsar-Nangal Dam (14505-06), Ludhiana - Chheharta special train (04591-92), Jalandhar City-Nakodar (06972-71), and Lohian Khas-Ludhiana (04630, 06983), have been cancelled until October 9. Trains like New Delhi-Lohian Khas will be diverted from Ludhiana through the Nakodar route to Jalandhar and then Lohian Khas. Other long-distance services, such as Dr Ambedkar Nagar-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Gandhidham-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express, have also had their routes altered during this period.
