Hoshiarpur accident: PM Modi announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for kin of dead
New Delhi, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the death of 8 people in an accident in Punjab's Hoshiarpur on Friday and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next-of-kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.

Taking to their official account, Prime Minister's Office tweeted, "Expressing grief on the loss of lives due to an accident in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, PM @narendramodi has approved an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
Notably, eight were killed and several others sustained injuries after a truck ran over pilgrims in the Garhshankar area of the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab on Thursday.
As per the statement of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daljit Singh Khakh, “Eight people died on spot.”
The incident occurred when pilgrim were on their way to Charan Choh Ganga Khuralgarh Sahib Gurdwara in the Garhshankar sub-division.
The DSP said the deceased were identified as Rahul, Sudesh Pal, Santosh, Angoori, Kunti, Geeta and Ramoh.
Bodies of the deceased have been kept in a mortuary, police officials said.
Among the injured, one person identified as Teena has been shifted to the PGI Hospital, Chandigarh, "She is recovering," the official said.

Pilgrims have been flocking to Khuralgarh Sahib, a place associated with Guru Ravidas, in view of the Baisakhi festival.
