Amritsar, June 14: Despite a relentless heatwave sweeping across Punjab, the Golden Temple in Amritsar continues to witness a steady influx of devotees. The scorching temperatures, which have soared to nearly 47 degrees Celsius, have not diminished the devotion and determination of thousands of visitors who flock to Sri Harmandir Sahib daily.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has risen to the challenge, implementing numerous measures to ensure the comfort and safety of the devotees amidst the oppressive heat. Their comprehensive arrangements have significantly eased the difficulties posed by the extreme weather.

To combat the intense heat, the SGPC has strategically placed shabeels (free drink stations) throughout the gurdwara complex, providing chilled water, buttermilk, and other refreshing beverages. These stations are a welcome respite for the devotees, offering them much-needed hydration.

Proper matting has been laid out across the marble floors to prevent devotees from burning their feet while walking barefoot, a customary practice at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Besides, large fans and coolers have been installed at various points to provide relief from the sweltering heat. The SGPC has also erected temporary sheds to offer shade and protection from the sun, particularly in areas where devotees tend to gather in large numbers.

Manjeet Singh, a devotee visiting from Ludhiana, expressed his gratitude for the arrangements: "The heat is intense, but so is our devotion. Shabeels are a blessing, and the fans and coolers help a lot. The Golden Temple is a place of peace, and these efforts ensure we can focus on our prayers without worrying about the heat."

Amrita Kaur, who travelled from Delhi with her family, shared a similar sentiment: "We were initially worried about the heat, but our faith kept us determined. The arrangements here are very thoughtful."

A volunteer at the Golden Temple, said, "Every day, we see thousands of devotees coming here despite the heat. It's inspiring to witness their faith. The SGPC has ensured that everyone can have a safe and comfortable visit. We are doing our best to support them in any way we can."
