HC stays trial court proceeding against Punjab Minister Harpal Cheema, Milkfed Chairman
Chandigarh, May 16: In a big relief to Punjab Minister Harpal Cheema, the High Court on Tuesday stayed the trial court proceedings against Cheema and Milkfed Chairman Narinder Singh Shergill till May 19.
Notably, an FIR was filed against Harpal Cheema, Narinder Shergill, now Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other AAP leaders for rioting on January 10, 2020.
Earlier, the High Court had granted relief to now-CM Bhagwant Mann and Minister Aman Arora in the same case. Moreover, a notice has been issued to the Chandigarh administration, seeking a response on the case.
In 2020, when the previous Congress government of Punjab increased the electricity rates, AAP leaders including Bhagwant Mann, Harpal Cheema, Aman Arora, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and others tried to gherao the CM House in Chandigarh in protest.
The AAP leaders also clashed with cops, leading to Chandigarh Police filing an FIR.
