Gurdaspur: Explosion heard at Punjab police station; 8th incident in 28 days
It marks the eighth such incident in Punjab in less than a month; investigation underway
PTC Web Desk: Punjab continues to grapple with a spate of grenade attacks on police stations, with the latest suspected incident reported at Wadala Banger village in Gurdaspur on Tuesday evening. In a span of 48 hours, this is the second suspected attack in the Kalanaur area of Gurdaspur district, marking the eighth such incident in the state within 28 days. The alarming frequency of these attacks has raised serious questions about Punjab’s security and law enforcement preparedness.
According to reports, the residents of Wadala Banger village were jolted awake by a powerful explosion during the night. The incident created panic, with police sirens echoing through the area throughout the night.
This suspected attack comes just a day after the pro-Khalistan group Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) carried out an assault on the Kalanaur police post. Forensic teams are currently examining the site, and senior officials are closely monitoring the situation.
Eight attacks in 28 days
The suspected attack at Wadala Banger marks the eighth such incident in Punjab in less than a month. Of these, seven attacks have been orchestrated by terrorists based abroad, while one unexploded bomb was recovered at the Ajnala police station.
Timeline of key incidents
November 24: Explosives were planted outside the Ajnala police station using RDX, but they failed to detonate. The attack was claimed by Happy Passia, and two suspects were later arrested, leading to the recovery of hand grenades.
November 27: A grenade exploded at a closed police post in Gurbaksh Nagar.
December 2: A grenade attack targeted Kathgarh police station in SBS Nagar, resulting in the arrest of three terrorists and the seizure of weapons.
December 4: A blast at Majitha police station was initially dismissed as a tire burst by the police. However, former MLA Bikram Majithia shared photographs, describing it a terrorist incident.
December 13: A grenade was hurled at the Aliwal Batala police station, with Happy Passia and his associates claiming responsibility for the nighttime attack.
December 17: The Islamabad police station was attacked with a grenade. While local police initially denied the blast, Punjab DGP later confirmed it as a terrorist act.
December 19: Terrorists attacked the abandoned Bakshi Wala police post in Gurdaspur, throwing a grenade at a seized auto parked nearby.
