1 dead after gas leak at Jalandhar ice factory

Chaos unfolded among public after ammonia gas leaked in an ice- factory in Punjab's Jalandhar on Saturday. The authorities have cordoned off the area and police have initiated emergency efforts.

Jalandhar gas leak: Chaos unfolded among public after ammonia gas leaked in an ice- factory in Punjab's Jalandhar on Saturday, killing one person. The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Sheetal Singh.

The authorities have cordoned off the area. According to sources, at least 4 people were trapped inside the factory.

The incident took place in Domoria Bridge in Jalandhar. 


Ambulances were stationed 200 meters from the factory, as gas continues to pose a health risk. People within a 100-meter radius of the factory were having difficulty breathing, with others complaining of dizziness and irritation. 

The incident took place when a gas line at the factory malfunctioned, leaking ammonia into the atmosphere.

According to sources, two workers became trapped within the factory, and one of them died. Two people passing near the factory fainted as a result of the gas's intensity, although both are now stable.

According to police sources, a woman who had come to a nearby medicine shop fainted but has now regained consciousness.

According to the authorities, the road will stay closed until the gas has dissipated completely. Residents and commuters are currently advised to avoid the area.

The reason for the leak is being investigated, and further security measures are being taken to avoid such situations in the future, according to a police officer.
