PTC News Desk: A gangster was shot dead on Wednesday while trying to flee police custody after he and a few other accused in a murder case were taken to a place in Amritsar to recover, officials said.
Gangsters Gursharan and Paras, along with another person, were taken to a place in this district to make some recoveries when the two gangsters pulled up firearms they had previously hidden in the bushes and shot at Amritsar Rural police personnel in an attempt to flee, according to police.
Police officers fired in self-defence, killing Gursharan, while Paras jumped into a river and escaped, according to reports. A police spokesperson said a manhunt has started to apprehend him.
In a statement, Deputy Inspector General of Police Satinder Singh said the accused were brought to the place where they had hidden the guns, as per their disclosure statement to police.
However, the two accused swiftly pushed the police officers and fled. They opened fire on the police officers after gaining possession of their guns, which they had hidden behind the bushes, he claimed.
