Dhillon siblings' death case: Body of younger brother Jashanbir found after 16 days

Dhillon siblings' death case: The body of one of the Dhillon brothers has been found in the Mand area, 16 days after they plunged into the Beas River flooding from the Goindwal bridge. The siblings took the drastic step allegedly due to harassment by the Jalandhar police.

The body was found near Talwaandi Chaudhrian in the Mand area and is believed to be that of Jashanbir Singh, the younger brother.

 On the evening of August 17, both Manavjit Singh and Jashanbir Singh jumped into the Beas.

The recovery of the body coincided with a candle march in Jalandhar by the public in support of the brothers. Sunday's march saw a massive participation, with hundreds marching to demand justice for the brothers.

Jashanbir and Manavjit on August 17 jumped into the Beas near the Goindwal bridge, allegedly after Manavjit (the eldest of the two) was humiliated by thana no. 1 police in Jalandhar. His turban was removed, and he was detained by police (following a DDR filed against him).

Manavjit had gone to the police station with his friends to report a domestic violence case filed by his friend's sister Parminder Kaur against her husband Gurmeet Singh.

Jashanbir, allegedly upset by Manvjit's humiliation in the thana, leapt into the Beas a day later, and Manavjit followed suit.

Jatinder Pal Singh Dhillon, the duo's 70-year-old father, stated, "They died fighting for their turban. At the police station, Manavjit was compelled to remove his turban, which his brother could not tolerate. Jashanbir respectfully took off his turban and placed it on the bridge before jumping into the river."

Cops booked

SHO Navdeep Singh, Lady Constable Jagjit Kaur and ASI Balwinder Kumar of thana no. 1, Jalandhar have been booked in the case.
