Chandigarh Mayor Elections: BJP’s Anup Gupta is new Chandigarh Mayor

Chandigarh, January 17: Chandigarh Mayor Elections- Chandigarh city mayoral polls took place on January 17 at Municipal Corporation building, Sector-17, Chandigarh. 

BJP’s Anup Gupta beats AAP’s Jasbir Singh Laddi to become the new Chandigarh Mayor.

A total of 29 votes were polled out of which BJP got 15 votes and the AAP got 14 votes.

Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, Kirron Kher also casted her vote in Chandigarh Mayor Elections. 


Voting for the Chandigarh mayoral election began at 11 am on Tuesday in the Assembly hall of the municipal corporation as the BJP and AAP locked horns for the key post.

In the house of 35-member, both Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have 14 members each, six are from the Congress and SAD has a lone councillor. 

Notably, three post for the election are held every year during the five-year term of the Municipal Corporation House but however this time, the mayor has been elected for the second term.
