Amritsar youth died fighting for Russia in Ukraine; family seeks govt help to bring back body
Tejpal, the only son after his brother's death in 2019, leaves behind his parents, wife, and two young children
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic development, Sikh youth from Amritsar Tejpal Singh died fighting for Russia in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Tejpal Singh, a 30-year-old resident of Palam Vihar Colony, Amritsar, had travelled to Russia in December and, after three months of rigorous training, was enlisted in the Russian Army. Throughout his service, Tejpal maintained regular contact with his family via phone.
On March 3, Tejpal Singh reportedly informed his family that he was being deployed to the Ukrainian border and cautioned them not to worry if they did not hear from him for a few days. However, when days turned into weeks without any contact, his anxious family began reaching out to his friends and, eventually, the Indian embassy in Russia.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs formally notified Tejpal Singh's family on June 9 of his death, plunging them into profound grief. Tejpal was the only surviving son of his family, having lost his brother in 2019. He is survived by his elderly parents, his wife, a six-year-old daughter, and a three-year-old son.
Tejpal's family has been devastated by the news and is now seeking assistance from the Indian government to bring his body back home for the final rites. They are also requesting employment for his widow to support the family's future.
