PTC News Desk: The Punjab police claimed on Saturday that radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and his associates pose a severe threat to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's life, as well as to the state's law and order.

The police made this statement in an affidavit filed with the Punjab and Haryana High Court, citing a few videos taken outside the Ajnala police station, according to The Times of India.

In these alleged videos, the Khadoor Sahib MP can be heard suggesting that the chief minister is acting in a way that will ensure he meets the same destiny as former chief minister Beant Singh.

"We warned CM Mann not to follow in the footsteps of CM Beant Singh. CM Mann is still on the same path he took before. Dilawar acted as a human bomb and blew up Chief Minister Beant Singh. CM Mann has assured that several such Dilawars have been born out of this crowd," Amritpal is heard stating in the videos.

According to police, such words have the potential to mislead young people into believing that assassinating a democratically elected chief minister was a "heroic deed".

"If he was to take the law into his own hands and go about harming everyone who may not agree with his ideology, as he has done in recent past a serious and adverse situation of law and order, maintenance of public order and security of the state was most likely to arise in the area/state," the police stated.

These affidavits are part of the police's response to cases filed by the preachers' aides, Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi and Gurmeet Singh Gill, who contested the Punjab government's fresh detention orders issued under the National Security Act (NSA) in March 2024.
