AAP MP Kang writes to Lok Sabha secretary general, seeks Presidential assent to Punjab's anti-sacrilege Bills

AAP MP in his letter has asked for central government's intervention for seeking Presidential assent for Bills of the Punjab Assembly providing stringent punishment for sacrilege of all religious texts.

PTC News Desk: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP from Anandpur Sahib Malwinder Singh Kang has submitted a notice to Lok Sabha secretary general for the adjournment of House proceedings to have discussion on the sacrilege issues in Punjab.


AAP MP in his letter has asked for central government's intervention for seeking Presidential assent for Bills of the Punjab Assembly providing stringent punishment for sacrilege of all religious texts.


The bills — IPC amendment bill and the CrPC amendment bill — were passed by the Punjab Assembly on August 28, 2018, but have not received assent of the President.


The sacrilege issues have largely dominated the political landscape of Punjab.
