Punjab Byelection results: AAP emerge victorious in three Congress' bastion, loses own
With counting in its final stage, ruling party has already set the stage for victory celebrations. Aam Aadmi Party has already secured win in Congress strongholds Dera Baba Nanak, Gidderbaha and Chabbewal, whereas the party drubbed in its own Barnala where Congress is expanding its footprints.
PTC News Desk: It's a sweeping victory for Aam Aadmi Party in three out of four assembly constituencies of Punjab where bypolls were held on November 20.
With counting in its final stage, ruling party has already set the stage for victory celebrations. Aam Aadmi Party has already secured win in Congress strongholds Dera Baba Nanak, Gidderbaha and Chabbewal, whereas the party drubbed in its own Barnala where Congress is expanding its footprints.
Dr Ishank Chabbewal, son of Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar, clinched a decisive victory in the Chabbewal Assembly bypoll. The 30-year-old radiologist, contesting on an AAP ticket, secured a commanding margin of 28,582 votes, defeating seasoned political heavyweights in the process.
In Gidderbaha, AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon against his nearest rival and Congress candidate Amarita Warring, wife of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Raja Warring.
BJP on the other hand did not manage to even reach closer to victory. However the saffron party also did not receive any resistance for the first time in an election after the three farm laws were rolled out in 2020, are at third place in all four constituencies.
The election results would prove to be litmus test and will also determine the future course of Punjab heavyweights.
Bypolls to Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC) and Barnala took place on November 20. The by-polls were necessitated after the incumbent legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year.
