Third blast in a week
Amritsar blast: Punjab Police arrested five people on Thursday morning after an explosion was heard near the Golden Temple in Amritsar in the wee hours on Thursday.
As per the sources, the five arrested have been identified as the residents of Gurdaspur.
According to the details, the blast occurred near Sri Guru Ram Dass Niwas, in the vicinity of the Golden Temple in Amritsar at nearly 12.30 am.

Punjab Director-General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav also took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Amritsar low intensity explosion cases solved 5 persons arrested Press Conference will be held in #Amritsar @PunjabPoliceInd committed to maintaining peace and harmony in Punjab as per directions of CM @BhagwantMann”
He further said that a press conference will be held regarding the blast.
Notably, this is the third blast that took place to rock the vicinity in a week.
According to the Punjab police sources, the motive behind the blast was to disturb peace.
However, no fatalities were reported in the incident.
While talking to the reporters, Commissioner of Police Naunihal Singh earlier said, "A loud sound was heard at around 12.15-12.30 am. There's a possibility that it could be another explosion. It's being verified and is yet to be confirmed. We have found some pieces behind the building. But since it is dark we are trying to find out."
Notably, Sri Guru Ram Dass Niwas is the oldest 'sarai' (lodge).
Meanwhile, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Harjinder Singh Dhami also said, “This is the failure of the Punjab govt. We will strengthen our own task force now. We urge police to hold a thorough probe into the matter”
