PTC Web Desk: Khanauri border has become the epicentre of a growing farmers' agitation, with 111 more farmers now participating in an indefinite hunger strike alongside Jagjit Singh Dallewal. who has been on fast unto death for 51 days. The protesters are dressed in black robes.

The hunger strike by 111 more farmers began near police barricades, where a heavy police presence was observed to maintain order. Kaka Singh Kotra, a prominent farmer leader, announced that the hunger strike would continue indefinitely until their demands are met.

The agitation, which started with a smaller group, has garnered increased support, with farmers from various regions joining the movement. Despite the risks to their health, the farmers remain steadfast.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed the Punjab Government to provide comprehensive medical reports of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for 51 days. The apex court plans to seek an expert opinion from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) regarding his health.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the Punjab Government initially claimed that Dallewal’s condition was improving but later clarified that his condition remains stable. Representing the Punjab Government, senior advocate Kapil Sibal informed the Bench, comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice NK Singh, that medical teams were closely monitoring Dallewal, stationed just 10 metre from his location.

Justice Surya Kant raised concerns about conflicting statements on Dallewal’s health, seeking more clarity. Sibal later revealed that Dallewal had permitted blood tests, though challenges remain in managing his health. Justice Surya Kant further noted that external pressures might influence Dallewal's stance on his condition.

The Supreme Court has ordered a comparative analysis of Dallewal’s past and current medical reports, with the next hearing scheduled for January 22.

Dallewal is reportedly experiencing severe health issues, including difficulty consuming water, which leads to immediate vomiting. A medical team from Patiala examined him on Tuesday to assess his deteriorating condition.
