New Delhi, April 19: Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, faced disappointment as she was denied permission to visit her husband in Tihar jail on Monday. This denial was confirmed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which cited the jail authorities' refusal. The reason cited by the Tihar Jail administration was the scheduled visit of Delhi Minister Atishi on the same day, followed by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's visit on Tuesday.

Tihar Jail regulations dictate that only two persons are permitted to visit an inmate at a time. Therefore, when Bhagwant Mann earlier visited Arvind Kejriwal on April 15, he was accompanied by AAP's organisation general secretary Sandeep Pathak. Sources within Tihar Jail said after Atishi and Bhagwant Mann's visits, Sunita Kejriwal might be granted permission to meet her husband, likely the next week.

However, according to the jail guidelines, only two visits are allowed per week. With Atishi scheduled for Monday and Bhagwant Mann for Tuesday, it leaves no room for any additional visits in the same week. Consequently, Sunita Kejriwal may have to wait until the subsequent week.

Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail since April 1 due to his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy case. He was arrested  on March 21. His time in Tihar Jail has been embroiled in controversy, particularly concerning his health. Allegations arose that the authorities had neglected to provide him with his diabetes medication since his detention. Moreover, the Enforcement Directorate accused Kejriwal of consuming inappropriate food for diabetics.

In the absence of Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal has taken an active role in political activities. She recently led her first roadshow in Delhi, campaigning for the AAP's East Delhi candidate ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The roadshow garnered significant attention and support.

With Kejriwal's absence, Sunita is expected to play a pivotal role in spearheading the party's campaign not only in Delhi but also in Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.
