Voting began at 7 a.m., and votes will be counted on November 23.

In Punjab, polls are being held in four assembly seats: Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), and Barnala.

The byelections were called after the MLAs representing the seats were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general election earlier this year.

The Congress previously held Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, and Chabbewal assembly seats, while the AAP had the Barnala seat.

The byelections will decide the fate of key contestants - BJP nominee and former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Congress's Amrita Warring, Jatinder Kaur, AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, Dr Ishank Kumar Chabbewal, and BJP's Kewal Singh Dhillon, Sohan Singh Thandal, and Ravikaran Singh Kahlon.

Amrita Warring is the wife of Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. Jatinder Kaur is the wife of Gurdaspur MP and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
