Punjab byelections 2024: Change in date for bypolls in 4 constituencies
In Punjab, the byelections will be held for the seats of Barnala, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Gidderbaha
Punjab byelections 2024: The date for the bypoll in four Assembly seats in Punjab has been rescheduled. On Monday, the Election Commission announced changes to the earlier scheduled byelections for 15 Assembly seats across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Kerala. The polls, which were originally set for November 13, will now be conducted on November 20, while the results will be declared on November 23, as initially planned.
The date adjustment comes following demands from major political parties in these states, including the BJP, Congress, RLD, and BSP.
In Punjab, the byelections will be held for the seats of Barnala, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Gidderbaha. These seats were vacated earlier this year after the respective MLAs were elected to Parliament.
Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C shared that as of October 10, the total number of voters across the four Assembly constituencies stands at 6,96,316, with 831 polling stations set up.
Dera Baba Nanak: 1,93,268 voters; 241 polling stations
Chabbewal (SC): 1,59,254 voters; 205 polling stations
Gidderbaha: 1,66,489 voters; 173 polling stations
Barnala: 1,77,305 voters; 212 polling stations
The Election Commission said all arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the bypolls.
