PTC News Desk: In New Delhi, prominent leaders from the opposition INDIA bloc are set to convene at the renowned Ramlila Maidan this Sunday for the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ (save democracy) rally. This gathering serves as a demonstration of the opposition's solidarity and vigor, particularly following the recent arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the liquor policy case.

1. Event Location: The rally is scheduled to take place at Delhi's iconic Ramlila Maidan, and it's anticipated that all major leaders of the INDIA bloc will be in attendance.

2. Purpose of the Rally: Dubbed as the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ (save democracy) rally, it signifies the opposition's display of strength and unity, particularly in light of the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, concerning the liquor policy case.

3. AAP’s Stance: While the AAP leaders are framing the rally as a direct protest against Kejriwal's arrest, the Congress has emphasized that it's not centered around any specific individual. Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh clarified that it's a broader initiative involving approximately 27-28 political parties.

4. Expected Participants: Key leaders from various constituent parties of the INDIA bloc are anticipated to participate and address the gathering. Notable attendees from the Congress include its national president Mallikarjun Kharge and former chief Rahul Gandhi.

5. Presence of Kejriwal’s Associates: Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Arvind Kejriwal, and Kalpana Soren, spouse of former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren (who was also arrested by the ED in January), are slated to be present at the event. They recently met, expressing solidarity and determination to confront the challenges together.

6. Logistical Details: Delhi Police have granted permission for the AAP to host the rally with an estimated 20,000 participants, considering the ground's capacity of approximately 1.25 lakh. However, certain conditions have been imposed, such as no procession, no use of tractor-trollies, and a prohibition on carrying weapons in central Delhi.

7. Security Measures: Section 144, which restricts large gatherings, has been enforced at DDU Marg, where political party offices are situated, as a precautionary measure.

8. BJP’s Response: The ruling BJP has launched a verbal attack on the INDIA bloc, labeling their rally as ‘Bhrashtachar Bachao Andolan’ (save corrupt movement). BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla pointed out the irony of Kejriwal seeking support from politicians he once criticised for corruption allegations.

In summary, the rally in Delhi signifies a significant political event where the opposition aims to showcase unity and raise concerns about democratic values, while facing criticism and mockery from the ruling party.
