Dharamveer Gandhi joins Congress: Indian Politician and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP from Patiala Dharamvir Gandhi joins Congress on Monday ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Inspired by the 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement, Dharamvir Gandhi ventured into politics and actively campaigned for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during the 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly election. He bravely contested the 2014 Indian general election from Patiala under the AAP. Despite the challenges, Gandhi emerged victorious by a significant margin of 20,942 votes.

However, Gandhi resigned from the party in 2016 and formed his own political party called Punjab Front and contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Despite facing tough competition, Gandhi secured the third position, showcasing his resilience and commitment to serving the people of Punjab.

He has been vocal on various social and political issues, advocating for transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The political journey of Dharamvir Gandhi: A tale of conviction and commitment

Former AAP Member of Parliament (MP) from Patiala, Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi, joined the Congress party today, marking a significant shift in political allegiance. Dr. Gandhi emerged victorious in the 2014 elections, securing a notable win by defeating Preneet Kaur, the spouse of Captain Amarinder Singh.

As Punjab gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party is actively engaged in fortifying its ranks. Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi's decision to join Congress underscores the strategic moves being made to consolidate support in the region. The merger of Dr. Gandhi's party, Nawan Punjab, with Congress took place in Delhi, signifying a pivotal moment in his political trajectory. It is speculated that Congress may field him as a candidate from the Patiala constituency, given his strong local ties and previous electoral success in the region.

A distinguished cardiologist by profession, Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi made his foray into politics when he joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2013. His candidacy in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections under the AAP banner posed a formidable challenge to established political figures like Preneet Kaur. Despite facing stiff competition, Dr. Gandhi secured a decisive victory, clinching the seat by a margin of 20,942 votes. His triumph over Preneet Kaur, who garnered 3,44,729 votes, marked a significant electoral upset, making him the sole leader to achieve such a feat.

Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi's transition to the Congress party not only reflects shifting political dynamics but also underscores the party's concerted efforts to strengthen its foothold in Punjab ahead of the upcoming elections. With his proven track record and grassroots support, Dr. Gandhi's entry into the Congress fold is poised to influence the political landscape in the region significantly.

Disgruntled by the policies of the AAP, Dharamvir Gandhi bid farewell to the party's high command and embarked on his own political journey. In a bold move, he established his own party named Nawan Punjab ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Despite his efforts, however, he faced electoral defeat.

Congress poised for resurgence in Patiala amidst shifting political landscape

The political landscape in Patiala appears poised for significant shifts as recent developments indicate a potential resurgence of the Congress party in the region. The departure of Patiala MP Preneet Kaur from Congress to join the BJP dealt a significant blow to the party. Preneet Kaur's longstanding association with Patiala and her expressed desire to contest elections from the constituency underscored the magnitude of her departure.

However, amidst these changes, the Congress party stands to gain strength with the imminent joining of Dharamvir Gandhi. His decision to align with Congress presents a promising opportunity for the party to fortify its position in Patiala. If nominated as a candidate in the upcoming elections, Gandhi could pose a formidable challenge to Preneet Kaur's dominance in the region.

It's noteworthy that former MP Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi had previously expressed his intention to support Congress in the future. While he had refrained from formally joining the party, Gandhi pledged his commitment to contribute towards revitalising Congress. His stance indicated a willingness to support the party without seeking any personal gain or political aspirations.
