As the first phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir begins on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged voters to come out in huge numbers to strengthen the festival of democracy.
Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections 2024: The first phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir saw a cumulative voter turnout of 59% voter turnout on Wednesday, as per the Election Commission of India.
According to the election body, the district-wise turnout is -
Anantnag: 25.55%
Doda: 32.20%
Kishtwar: 32.69%
Kulgam: 25.95%
Pulwama: 20.37%
Ramban: 31.25%
Shopian: 25.96%

As the first phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir begins on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged voters to come out in huge numbers to strengthen the festival of democracy.
PM Modi urged first-time voters to use their right to vote in a post on X.
"As the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections begins, I urge all those in constituencies going to the polls today to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy. I particularly call upon young and first-time voters to exercise their franchise," PM Modi stated.
Polling for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections began at 7 a.m. today, amid tight security. Voting will conclude at 6 p.m. Long lines of voters were visible at polling stations in the morning.
In the first phase, 24 assembly constituencies across the Union Territory will vote today, including 16 seats in Kashmir and 8 seats in Jammu.
Voting for the second and third phases of J-K will take place on September 25 and October 1, respectively. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
This is the first Assembly election in J-K since the repeal of Article 370 in August 2019.
