Samosa controversy: Himachal CM issues clarification on CID probe; accuses BJP of smear campaign
Controversy began when samosas and cakes intended for CM Sukhu were mistakenly served to his security staff
PTC Web Desk: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has issued a clarification on a controversy surrounding a CID investigation into ‘samosas’ on Friday. He made it clear that the probe was actually related to the misconduct and misbehaviour of officials.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said contrary to media portrayal, the inquiry was not about samosas, but aimed at addressing inappropriate conduct by certain officials. He flayed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) response, calling their accusations “childish” and part of a smear campaign since the Congress' victory in the state Assembly elections.
“The probe was centered on officials' misconduct, not samosas. The DGP has already provided clarification on this matter,” Sukhu was reported as saying. The Himachal CM alleged that the BJP had been trying to undermine his administration since its attempt to destabilise the government under 'Operation Lotus' failed.
The controversy arose when samosas and cakes meant for CM Sukhu were served to his security staff instead, leading to allegations that this act was anti-government. A CID note revealed that the October 21 incident at the CID headquarters involved refreshments from Hotel Radisson Blu, which were mistakenly given to the security team instead of the VVIPs. The report described the actions as “anti-CID” and “anti-government,” prompting an inquiry.
The BJP flayed the Congress-led administration for focusing on trivial matters like ‘the Chief Minister’s samosas’ rather than the state's development.
