Haryana Election Results 2024: The Aam Aadmi Party has failed to make an impact in the Haryana assembly election with early trends showing none of its candidates in the 90 seats in the lead. If the trends continue, it will be a significant blow for the AAP, especially given that it comes months before the Delhi Assembly elections.
The AAP's performance in the Haryana Assembly elections has also spurred debate over whether the party made a strategic mistake by refusing to forge an alliance with the Congress.
While local Congress leaders opposed an alliance with the AAP, senior leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was said to have pushed for it, arguing that it would prevent a vote split and give the opposition the best chance of defeating the BJP.
The AAP's senior leadership was also believed to be interested in an alliance, but talks were reportedly stalled because the party intended to fight at least ten of Haryana's 90 Assembly seats, whilst the Congress was unwilling to surrender more than seven.
The failure of alliance discussions was likely to affect the Congress in seven seats - Kalayat, Rania, Pehwa, Barwala, Jind, Bhiwani, and Gurugram - but only the results will reveal how big of an influence the AAP had.
