Delhi High Court issues notice to Sunita Kejriwal, social media giants over viral court video; probe ordered
The court has ordered an investigation into the viral video from March 28, where Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is seen addressing Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Baweja during his second court appearance
PTC Web Desk: The Delhi High Court on Saturday issued a notice to Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with social media giants Facebook and YouTube, demanding the deletion of posts and/or reposts containing a video of Kejriwal addressing the court on March 28.
It comes after a plea was filed seeking action against violations of video conferencing rules. The video in question was circulated while Arvind Kejriwal was in police custody following his arrest in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
The court has ordered an investigation into the viral video from March 28, where Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is seen addressing Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Baweja during his second court appearance following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. The order came in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Vaibhav Singh.
Advocate Singh argued that several social media accounts associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other opposition groups shared video and audio recordings of the court proceedings after Kejriwal's address at the Rouse Avenue Court. Additionally, Sunita Kejriwal reposted an audio recording shared by a user on X.
Singh contended that recording court proceedings is prohibited under the "High Court of Delhi Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts 2021." He claimed that the circulation of these videos aimed to malign the judiciary and the judges, alleging it was part of a conspiracy by Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP.
