Congress claims its bank accounts frozen; IT department seeks Rs 210 cr recovery

PTC News Desk: The Congress party accused the Income Tax department of freezing its bank accounts, including those of the Youth Congress, with allegations emerging on Friday.
Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken revealed in a press conference that they received information indicating that banks were not honoring their issued cheques.
"Further investigation revealed that the bank accounts of the Youth Congress have been frozen, along with those of the Congress party," Maken stated. He disclosed that the Income Tax department had demanded a recovery of ₹210 crore from both the Youth Congress and the Congress party.

Maken also highlighted that funds from crowdfunding initiatives, stored in their accounts, have been frozen. He expressed concern over the timing of the account freezes, stating that just two weeks before elections, such actions are akin to stifling democracy.
