All employees and workers will be granted this special leave

Haryana elections 2024: In the wake of the Haryana Assembly elections 2024 on October 5, the Chandigarh Administration has declared a special leave for all factories, shops, and commercial establishments located in the city on October 5 (Saturday). This decision aims to ensure that all registered voters from Haryana, who are employed in Chandigarh, have the opportunity to exercise their voting rights.

The announcement was made by an advisor to the Chandigarh Administration, utilising powers granted under the Factories Act, 1948, and the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958. 


All employees and workers, including casual labourers, who are eligible to vote in the Haryana Assembly elections 2024 will be granted this special leave. Besides, these employees will receive paid leave, as stipulated under Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. According to the directives issued by the Chandigarh Administration, this leave will apply only to those employees who are registered voters in Haryana and are working in Chandigarh.
